Commissioning Service of Trinity’s Mission Team

The  countdown for the Tanzania trip is on!  The Commissioning Service at Trinity Lutheran Church this morning made the dream of my mission  trip to Tanzania become a concrete reality.  This is really going to happen!   The service calmed  my anxieties because I know that the mission team will  be enfolded in the prayers of the people of both Trinity and Mwatasi Lutheran churches.

Thirteen people will be leaving on Saturday, October 19th to meet our brothers and sisters in Christ at the Lutheran Church in Mwatasi, Tanzania.   Those going on the trip include: (pictured left to right) Kris Linner,  Mike Johnson, Marie Liberia, Michele Hermansen, Beth and Charlie Payne, Rita Friesen,

Not pictured:  Doug Dufty, Mel Sullivan, Jim Brown, Heather Zweifel, Andrew Wohlfeil, Aaron Wahlstrom

People often ask us, “What will you be doing?”  The trip is about being with the people of Tanzania rather than doing for people. We will accompany the people we meet in daily life to learn about their work and play, their faith and values, their joys and challenges.  In David Brooks’ book, How to Know A Person, he states, “Accompaniment often involves a surrender of power that is beautiful  to behold.” In doing for others we maintain power over and in being with others we join in human connection.  That is what we will be doing, connecting with people.

The team will provided updated posts as time and connectivity allow.

Kris Linner
